Map extras

  • Some place names show they were likely to have been founded by Viking settlers. Their population density displays as a "heat map" best viewed with the map zoomed out to show most of the UK.

  • CraneCranes used to be a very common UK bird. This is reflected in the names of places they could be found. These places are marked on the map with a crane icon.
